The Long Range model’s 23,000 lb curb weight is approximately 4,000–5,000 lbs heavier than a typical diesel Class 8 tractor, reducing payload capacity by a corresponding amount. Volume Production Timeline
Tesla’s Semi factory in Northern Nevada, adjacent to Gigafactory Nevada, is the critical bottleneck. The timeline:

- Timeline credibility: Tesla has missed every previous Semi production deadline by years. The factory appears genuinely close to completion, but 50,000 units/year remains aspirational until demonstrated.
- Charging infrastructure: 66 planned Megacharger sites is a skeleton network. Long-haul operations beyond depot-and-back routes depend on this buildout, and it is early.
- Weight penalty: The ~4,000–5,000 lb weight premium over diesel reduces payload capacity, which matters for weight-limited freight. Higher GVW allowances for ZEVs help but are not universal.
