At least for a while I’ve expanded my research analysis to include articles about AI economics and finance as well as data centres. These now have their own home on itkservices3.com under “AI economics”, and their own email list. If you want them, update your preferences and tick “AI and datacentre economics” — or use the update your preferences link at the foot of this email. If you’d rather not, do nothing: the research articles carry on unchanged.
The latest note looks at the Colossus lease to see where the leverage lies. This took me down the pathway of understanding what drives AI model improvement. It turns out more MW is a big part of the deal, and of course that has data centre and electricity implications.
I was going to write more but suffice to say that my primary focus remains very much on decarbonising Australia via decarbonising Australia’s electricity production and then electrifying everything. This year, for very obvious reasons, “electrify everything” resolves into replacing diesel in trucks.
